Purpose:

    The school district is planning a program for teen parents to ensure that they and their babies receive health services, parenting education, and child care services. There is a three way community partnership with the school district to accomplish these goals.
    It is envisioned that with all of the above services facilitated for the teen parent, he/she will not drop out of high school. The three way community partnership includes:
    1. Horizon Health Center - prenatal pediatric care
    2. YMCA - Positive Parenting Program
    3. Day Care 100 - child care services
    4. Jersey City Public Schools - high school educational services

Benefits:

  • The [school] district hopes to receive prenatal and pediatric as well as well baby care for 20 teen age parents enrolled in one of the five high schools.
  • Expansion of the school based clinic in the high school.
  • Drop in dropout rate.
  • Expansion of the school based clinic (Horizon Health Center).
  • Extension of their teen parenting program (YMCA).
  • An opportunity to further serve the community (Horizon and Y).
  • Staff development for child care center (Day Care 100).
